Poema Dominical
(Jim Burns)

Carros feitos de pára-choques
na rodovia lá embaixo.
O sol está brilhando e,
tipo formigas, todos saem,
correndo pra lá e pra cá.
Eu não odeio pessoas, mas
há muitas delas aqui.
De manhã indo pro Oeste,
de noite, para o Leste.
Acho que estou ficando velho.
Fico no intermediário, esperando
que as coisas acalmem.
O vizinho também fica em casa,
e senta no jardim,
transistores chiando.

Sunday Poem
(Jim Burns)

Cars bumper to bumper
on the motorway below.
The sun’s shining and,
like ants, they’re all out,
dashing here and there.
I don’t hate people, but
there are a lot of them.
In the morning going West,
in the evening going East.
I guess I’m getting old.
I stay in the middle,
hoping it will be quieter.
The man next door
stays at home, too,
and sits in his garden,
transistor blaring.
